Диксиленд (dixieland) - the name of jazz ensembles New Orleans the style, consisting of white musicians. The name occurs from the designation of the South of the USA extended in the American folklore.
Exact sources of this word are not known till now. Most likely, a role the border name between free northern states and the slaveholding south - Mason Diksona's line (by name the senators who have offered such division of the country) here has played.
According to other version, word Д has become current in those days when the bank of New Orleans has let out banknotes advantage in 10 dollars with the right of circulation in the south of the USA on which the word «dix» has been distinctly printed.
In connection with a racial discrimination, which existed in a jazz to second half 30th (in occurrence of the mixed orchestras), white musicians did not want that their collectives carried names New Orleans, it would put them on one foot with the Negro executors, playing this style.
